The 70s; Rickman and Vetter's heyday

The 70s; Rickman and Vetter's heyday

Riding a motorcycle into a headwind is tiring in the long run, and when the new generation of motorcycles entered the 70s, these were naked machines but with speed resources that literally gave you backlash. The solution was fairings in various varieties, from small handlebar fairings, to large touring fairings that provided protection from head to toe.

Fredrik's great Flathead

Some models achieve almost iconic status, such as Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. The model was Harley's first series-produced overhead-valve v-twin, and in the shadow of the icon stood what the Swedes refer to as "Storsidan", the side-vented 1200cc Flathead with the model name U. Now, however, the large side-vented Flathead is about to take over this position.

The round kiosk is classic and the menu nostalgic. What could be better than a tasty sausage in bread, a real burger, or a baked potato, and a cup of coffee and soft-serve ice cream for dessert? The kiosk, run by Bjørn Engebretsen, has brought together motorcyclists from the Mjøs region since the 1980s, and the place is nothing less than a small piece of Ace Cafe in Gjøvik, for the match for "machine park" you will have to look far.

In 1907 the first prototype of the V-twin was ready. It was 880 cc, and was the basis for the first V-twin for production, the Model 5-D of 811 cc which was ready in 1909. Things did not really pick up speed until 1911.

" Gilera 50TS - stylish license-free motorcycle" was the headline in the sales brochure. And if the customer really wanted to show off, it was undoubtedly the top model 50TSX that mattered, because it was delivered with aluminum rims and front disc brakes.

The Trondhjemsridtet is a tribute to the race of the same name that was first organized in 1919. That time the race was Oslo-Trondheim round trip. In 1959, Triumph Bonneville T-120 was released, the motorcycle that was loved by the entire motorcycle world. The "Bonnien" was Triumph's top model for several decades, and its history would become very central when Triumph jumped on the retro wave in the 2000s. The retro trend was growing at record speed, and all serious motorcycle manufacturers with respect for their own history wanted their share of the "cake". With the launch of Thruxton 900 in 2004, Triumph created a retro machine that paid tribute to the brand, the history of the Bonneville, and last but not least the race-rigged 650cc Thruxton . Talk about a hit.

The model came as a result of Alejandro De Tomaso's idea that Moto Guzzi had to offer a sports tourer. The 1000SP used, among other things, the same frame and exhaust system as at Le Mans. The fairing of the 1000SP, which Guzzi developed in the factory's own wind tunnel, was tested in the evening. The reason was that the motor that drove the fan blades in the wind tunnel drew so much electricity that production in the factory itself did not receive enough electricity.

October means the end of the motorcycle season, and winter storage is just around the corner. Before putting it away, there are some maintenance tasks that are worth doing. This will help ensure that your motorcycle is ready and safe for use when spring comes.

The autumn market at Ekeberg

The autumn market at Ekeberg

Despite a rainfall forecast on yr.no and a leaden cloud cover over the capital, many found their way to NVK's Autumn Market in Ekeberg on Saturday, September 20. The morning offered pleasant weather, and along the rows of sales stalls, people shopped for goods big and small.

With 20 degrees and cloudless skies over the capital, the bikers set off for Tyrigrava and the Wednesday meeting. We are writing 17.9, which means we are over halfway through September, and for bikers it means the season is drawing to a close. That's why many chose to enjoy this fine weather day, and tonight's "Wednesday meeting" at "Grava" was nothing less than a packed barrack of both new and not least old "iron".

Ekeberg Market in the fall of 2025

September means that a new Ekeberg market is in the works, and this autumn's market will take place at Ekeberg Camping on September 19-20. With sales stalls, club stands, there is a lot to experience, and maybe you will find exactly the part you are missing, and that needs to be in place to make your motorcycle complete.

Among all the modern and hyper-fast motorcycles that usually fill the parking lot at Tyrigrava, the occasional motorbike appears a little off the A4. The motorcycle that literally stood out in the crowd this Wednesday evening was a bright red Ural 650 with sidecar from 1995, belonging to Bjørnar Sulen Naustvik and his wife Monica Sulen Naustvik..

As I pull into the parking lot in front of the Powerplant Mc Mideast clubhouse on Holter, I catch sight of them standing around a bunch of customized Harleys. The laughter is flowing, and the atmosphere is great. I quickly notice the rock style of clothing with long hair, black jeans, leather vests and tattoos. We're talking about queens of custom here, and that's exactly what they are; the MC club "Drottningr Mc Østlandet".

"It was the sound that made me buy a Harley-Davidson ," says Lisa Giovannini, pointing to the Sportster and smiling. The somewhat modified Harley is used extensively, and in the summer heat Lisa enjoys her days in the saddle on the custom she built.
