Museo Ducati

Bucket lists exist for so many things, including motorcycle museums that are worth a visit. After having been to, among other things, Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee and the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, it was time for a visit to Ducati Museum in Bologna. The museum located in Via Antonio Cavalieri Ducati 3 is not among the largest motorcycle museums, but on the other hand the exhibition is pure "tenderloin" when it comes to motorcycle history.

Ducati was established in Bologna by Antonio Cavalieri Ducati in 1926, and was initially called Societa Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati . The small business produced, among other things, capacitors and vacuum tubes for use in radios.

In the years after World War II, there was an ever-increasing need for transportation for the general public, and in 1946 Ducati saw the opportunity in the new market by offering a simple and affordable means of transportation. The product was the small 48cc 4-stroke Cucciolo, a simple little engine that was sold as a kit and could be mounted on a pedal bicycle.

Ducati has gone its own way and been innovative. A prime example of this is the legendary and spectacular Desmodromic valve timing. From its humble beginnings in 1946 to the present day, the brand has made a strong mark in the sporting segment, whether it concerns street motorcycles or pure racing machines.

Models like the 750 Super Sport and 900 Super Sport were superbikes in their time when they went on sale in the 70s. Ducati has never been big on production volumes compared to, for example, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, but you can imagine the charisma they can show to the extent that this term can be associated with motorcycles. So, put a visit to the museum in Borgo Paginale on your Bucket list, at least if your heart beats for Ducati .
