The cafe racer scene and interest is on the rise, and bikes are being built like never before. I met Andrè Van Bui from Oslo, and took a closer look at his bike, an old Honda CB550Four. His classic cafe racer shows that "less is more", and that it is entirely possible to build a bike without breaking the bank.

Andrè Van Bui works as an IT consultant during the day, but after work he builds cafe racers. The starting point for Andrè's bike is a 1977 Honda 550Four.

The Honda was originally purchased in Moss, and after he got it home in the garage, the conversion began.

The styling is minimalist, and the right "ingredients" are in place. Clip-on handlebars, sports seat, 4-1 exhaust system and small instruments are just some of the details that give the Honda the right cafe feel.

Andrè likes this way of building a bike; constantly making small changes and improvements. Original parts are replaced, and parts are installed that give the right fit.

Together with his father, he has made the side covers, which are milled with a CNC machine. When I met Andrè at Karl Johan, many curious people had to go and look at the bike.

There were many positive superlatives from the audience, which he truly deserved. Van Bui definitely knows more than just computers.
