Rockers vs Mods

Rockers and Mods originated in England in the 1960s. The two groups had different social affiliations and rode quite different motorcycles.

The rockers were often working-class boys who rode cafe racers, and wore leather jackets, jeans and leather boots. The mods were middle-class students, rode scooters, and adorned themselves with parkas with politically charged buttons. Two groups, two different cultures, two social classes, often with conflicting values and interests. At the time, the level of conflict was visible, and it peaked with the mass brawl between them in Brighton during the Whitsun weekend in May 1964. The conflict between the two groups is also depicted in the film "Quadrophenia" from 1979.

When the Norwegian version of Rockers and Mods met at Eventyrbrua in Oslo a few years ago, things went smoothly. Of course, rubber was burnt, to great cheers from the audience, but apart from that, there was a good atmosphere. It would have been incredibly fun to experience it again.....
