"High power, high performance in the superbike for the 80s" was the slogan in the sales brochure from Suzuki in 1980, and the brand new 1100cc engine with 4-valve technology did not disappoint.

The new 1100cc engine delivered the goods, showing unmatched quality and reliability, which also applied to the smaller but equally popular GSX750E.

The GSX1100ET was the largest and most powerful Suzuki in the company's history so far, and the all-new inline-four with TSCC technology delivered a whopping 100 hp when the tachometer needle reached 8,700 rpm.

It had a top speed of 225 km/h, giving Suzuki a place at the top of the fastest machines. Compared to the old GS series, the GSX received a radical change in design, adapted to the new decade.

Now the focus was on straight lines, angles and angular lines, marketed with the following wording: "Futuristic, rectangular styling packages". For Suzuki , the GSX series became a worthy sequel to the success they had with the GS in the 70s, and GSX became synonymous with quality.
