From the Archives: PUCH mopeds, built for hard riding.

Austrian PUCH was founded in Graz in 1899, and started with the production of pedal bicycles. They eventually expanded to make motorcycles and mopeds. The mopeds that carried the PUCH logo on the gas tank were known for their reliability and their slightly distinctive design. In the 1970s and 1980s, PUCH was the largest European manufacturer of mopeds. It was especially the two models Maxi and Monza that were popular with young people, and here is some "bragging" from PUCH's sales brochures in Norway.

  • What could be expected of a moped? PUCH had the answer, and customers could choose between several models, with the Monza and Cross in particular appealing to 16-year-olds.
  • In 1978, the wholesale price of PUCH's most expensive moped, the Monza 4 SL, was NOK 6020. This was higher than the price of, for example, a Suzuki AC50.
