"A technical revolution, the integral braking system". These were the superlatives in Moto Guzzi 's sales brochure when they were going to push out the 1000SP in 1978. The model came as a result of Alejandro De Tomaso's idea that Moto Guzzi had to offer a sports tourer. The 1000SP used, among other things, the same frame and exhaust system as at Le Mans. The fairing of the 1000SP, which Guzzi developed in the factory's own wind tunnel, was tested in the evening. The reason was that the motor that drove the fan blades in the wind tunnel drew so much electricity that production in the factory itself did not receive enough electricity.

- To highlight the effect of the integrated braking system, the brochure stated the stopping distance with and without this technology. The difference in braking distance of a full 16 meters when the speed before braking was 100 km/h is significant.
