Zundapp KS100

Zundapp1970

When Zundapp stopped producing heavy motorcycles in the 1960s, it was to focus on producing lightweights and mopeds. Today, there aren't too many of these little German bikes to be seen. However, there are a few of them here in the vintage community, such as this great example of a KS100 from 1970.

Zundapp was one of the largest German motorcycle manufacturers, and produced a number of different models with and without sidecars. The last major Zundapp was the KS601, and production of this was stopped in the early 1960s.

In the 1950s they also made scooters. However, by the beginning of the 1960s they faced strong competition from Japanese manufacturers, and motorcycle sales plummeted.

Zundapp therefore changed its focus and focused heavily on the moped and lightweight market, while at the same time discontinuing the production of 4-stroke engines in favor of smaller 2-strokes.
